Chinese New Year, one of the most important holidays to Chinese people all over, is also one of the world's most prominent and celebrated festivals that associated with several customs and traditions, and myths. Chinese New Year celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. Also known as the Spring Festival, and Lunar New Year in Vietnam and Korea, the holiday marks the end of the coldest days and welcomes spring that will bring along planting and harvest, hence new day, fresh start, and new beginning.
In the Philippines, the Chinese New Year is also celebrated every year following the Lunar calendar. This year, Chinese New Year ranges from January 21 to February 20 and occurs on February 05, 2019, declared by the government as an official non-working holiday.
In Cagayan de Oro particularly, the City Government together with the growing Chinese community celebrates the Spring Festival annually that comes with different activities and events that usually lasts to 2 weeks or so. This year, the City Government of Cagayan de Oro, through the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office and in partnership with the Cagayan de Oro Chinese Community, has lines up a wide selection of activities to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
