First Barangay Looc Open Skimboarding Competiton 2019 held in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental Successfully Took Off

Recently, the Barangay Looc through the initiative of its Sangguniang Kabataan, in coordination with the Looc Barangay Council and  Municipality of Villanueva successfully celebrated the First Open Skimboarding Competition last January 16-17, 2019 at GMC Beach, Looc, Villanueva, in the province of Misamis Oriental.

The Skimboarding Competition gathered skimboarders from amateurs to hobbyists, and professionals to award winners from different parts of the province including its neighboring ciity- Iligan.

Registration fee of the competition was P150.00 per head for the beginner category, and P250.00 per head for the advance category.

For the beginner division, Darwin Adolfo hailing from the City of Majestic Waterfalls, Iligan City was announced as Champion and received P3,000.00 cash. Darwin is a member of Team Pirata founded by Peter Pagar.

1st Runner Up- Crismar Lariosa of Opol
2nd Runner Up- Julymar Mangangate of Iligan City
3rd Runner Up- Lester "Panoy" Rosal of Opol

Winners received P2,000.00, P1,000.00, and P500.00 cash prizes respectively.

For the advance division, Sonny Boy "Dudza" Yana, a local from the Municipality of Opol was announced as Champion and received P4,000.00 cash. Dudza is an award-winning SHORE-BREAK skimboarder solidfying his professional career and a member of Team TAUSI. He is also an official member of MISOR Shore-Breakers who competed during the 2nd Amihan Sa Dahican National Skimboarding Competition last April 2018 in Dahican, City of Mati, Davao Oriental.

1st Runner Up- Christian "Yan yan" Quitat of Iligan City
2nd Runner Up- RJ Edrozo of Opol
3rd Runner Up- Steve Norman "Kinkin" Ebonia of Opol

Winners received P3,000.00, P2,000.00, and P1,000.00 cash prizes respectively.

Skimboarding as a watersport is paving its existence in the region as more players, and brands are joining to solidify the sport and help the youth to actively engage in this kind of sport uplifting their skills, competence, and camaraderie. This has been an eye witness for local skimboarders in the region for the consistent support of the different brands, and companies specifically the rebirth of the sport last 2015 which was conducted by Apple Tree Resort and Hotel, the Premier Resort and Hotel in the Province and spearheaded by Mr Clement Dampal II known as the Project Director of Shore-Breaks. Shore-Breaks is an annual skimboarding competition gathering different talents from different parts of Mindanao and neighboring Visayan Region.
